MERCY AND ETERNAL CONDEMNATION. BETWEEN THE CAPPUCCINO OF MERCY AND OF ANONYMOUS CORNETTI

The reduction of justice to mercy, they forge entrambe. We report as an example of this unfortunate confusion some statements made by Raniero Cantalamessa in the sermon of the last Good Friday 2016, pronounced in St. Peter's Basilica: «The justice of God is the act by which God makes just, his graditi, those who believe in his Son. It's not doing justice, but doing things right. Luther had the merit of bringing this truth to light, after that for centuries, at least in Christian preaching, the meaning had been lost. It is for this above all that Christianity is indebted to the Reformation.". Faced with these words one might say: «The abomination of desolation in the holy place!».

Raniero Cantalamessa's serious mistake consists in the claim to define in a way general divine justice as if it were always only mercy, deriving completely incorrectly, with an illicit extrapolation, from the famous passage of the Letter to the Romans [3,21], where Saint Paul actually presents divine mercy as "justice", a false coincidence SIC et simpliciter between justice and mercy, denying the value of justice.

Cantalamessa, showing a specious exegesis, it doesn't take into account the fact that it is solo in that step there is identity of meaning. But in a thousand other steps of Scripture is very clear difference between justice and mercy […]
