The list of grave disparities, injustices, and violations of fundamental rights — in particular the violation of human rights committed directly “within the household” of the Supreme Pontiff, without anyone putting a stop to them (indeed: they even take offence and become still more aggressive toward those who dare ask that they cease) — is longer than the Litany of Loreto. Because, in the end, we are and remain what we have always been: ready, on the one hand, to defend in the public square the dignity of the last Muslim clandestine migrant landed on Italian shores, or even the dignity of embryos, only then to beat the faithful servants of the Church inside clerical chambers when the world’s cameras are turned off.

THE NEW CIONCI'S STORY: FROM THE ROMAN SERAPHICUM TO THE BRITISH NIMBY

Dear Cavalier Cionci - because incidentally you are also a Knight of the Italian Republic - you are very free to think what you believe, to write it, naturally, to have a following. But don't take the Catholic Church or those who manage its structures for fools, with means of this kind.

Many know the English expression «Not In My Back Yard» (not in my garden), often abbreviated with the acronym: «Nimby». A saying that serves to designate someone's opposition to hosting projects on their territory.

But there is also a proverb, this time Italian, that we all know and that begins like this: «Between the two litigants…»; which I would like to conclude by modifying the classic form a little with «... the third laughs».

The two litigants in question I'm Alessandro Minutella, priest from Palermo excommunicated e dismissed from the clerical state, and the journalist Andrea Cionci, author of the book «Ratzinger Code» in which he advocates the thesis that Pope Benedict XVI would never have renounced the papacy, by taking shelter in an imaginary prevented location, with the consequence that Pope Francis would have been an antipope. For the current Pontiff, judgment is suspended. Once upon a time the two got along very well, sharing ideas and proceeds. But as happens in couples, even the most close-knit ones, who first love each other and then hate each other, this is what happened between our two. Not a day goes by that they get caught on social media, Holding things against each other and no longer mentioning each other's names. Minutella indicates Cionci as «the Roman journalist», while for Cionci the Palermo native is addressed with: «the great prelate». In truth they both have a mad desire for fame, but above all to be taken seriously. And where if not in the Catholic Church and in one of its structures for example?

It so happens that Cionci is invited to speak at a meeting promoted by an association on apocalyptic themes, none other than in a room belonging to the Pontifical University of San Bonaventura, which is part of the complex Seraphicum in Rome. Naturally, CIONCA, he is quick to report it in a video on YouTube blaming Minutella, accusing him of having caused harm that was not so much to him, but to that extraordinary possibility of being able to speak about his theses in a Pontifical University.

Caro Cionci, we know Minutella, but this time he's not to blame: it is innocent. I'm the culprit, I admit: became aware of the thing and foreseeing the use that would then be made of it, I took pen and paper, or rather the computer, because even in my remote hermitage we have connection, and I wrote an email to the general secretary of the San Bonaventure Theological Faculty, asking if they thought it appropriate to host an event in which such bizarre ideas would be presented that still offend the person of Pope Francis, of venerable memory, and that of Pope Benedict, made to appear as a sort of carbonaro who puts the entire Church in check. The response was not long in coming: «the rental of the room was immediately canceled and the event at our headquarters was cancelled».

Perhaps the second email also had an impact, this time sent with more refined and appropriate tones by our editorial team of The Island of Patmos to the Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça? I do not know, but so.

Between Prozan and Prozac. THOSE PRIESTS WHO DERAIL AND HOLY MARY OF EQUILIBRIUM

For days we have been witnessing the case of some priests who have abandoned their ministry, believing that the cause is also due to a question of imbalance of that human virtue of temperance and faith. This essentially leads to the implementation of two possible scenarios: there are those who push on the accelerator of tradition and the romantic retro past with the hope of finding a panacea for the ills of the Church and those who dive into extreme progressivism which dangerously borders on heresy and manifest and full-blown schism.

Among the many Marian devotions — real or presumed — that crowd the Orbe catholica There is a very nice one which in our opinion is decidedly original and significant. We're talking about the Alma Aequilibri Mater which was renamed with the name of Santa Maria dell'Equilibrio, of whose feast there is no date, because from morning to evening, will be invoked. Anyone who would like to know more about the history of this Marian devotion will easily be able to find various news on the web and in other sources, for us, however, it is an opportunity for some scattered reflections.

In everyday life there is a need for balance which is that human quality that pertains to the virtue of temperance. Balance tempers intelligence and strengthens it, making it more witty and effective. In spiritual life itself, balance is equally fundamental because a faith without balance, that is, unbalanced, it is a chaotic faith capable of all kinds of aberrations and exaggerations.

The intelligence of reasonable faith cannot do without balance just as a minister of God cannot but desire in the exercise of his office to be balanced in doctrine and pastoral practice, avoiding the antipodes of fiery emotionality and dry rationalism.

Why do we say this? Why are we having witnessed for days the case of some priests who have abandoned their ministry, believing that the cause is also due to a question of imbalance of that human virtue of temperance and faith. This essentially leads to the implementation of two possible scenarios that are different in fact but common in error: there are those who push on the accelerator of tradition and the romantic retro past with the hope of finding a panacea for the ills of the Church and those who dive into extreme progressivism which dangerously borders on heresy and manifest and full-blown schism.

We believe that determining whether a man is out of balance is not a matter for a lawsuit, as well as taking note and, if necessary, reporting that a minister in sacred is involved in practice and form in heterodox positions and separation from the ecclesial body of the Church does not constitute a matter under the Code of Criminal Law, if anything canonical and of matter that pertains to the internal forum.

This methodology is sadly notorious in the colorful rainbow lobbies where the trial of intentions and thoughts is equivalent to a violent repression of those who "don't think like me". Of those who want to strut their stuff in tolerance, wisdom and intellectual or theological acumen but in fact it is ensnared by ideology and the pride of the self which is the very denial of any healthy balance and the ability to go inside things.

As Fathers of the Island of Patmos we believe and reaffirm the freedom to use free will as we see fit - knowing that the Creator himself is the first to leave his creatures free - even at the cost of denying faith and the Church and falling into error and sin. However, we are equally convinced that by virtue of this freedom and assumption of responsibility in one's own positions - theological or otherwise - everyone must leave the freedom of criticism and dissent to others, certainly not by sending intimidating messages, or fearing unlikely complaints following the consolidated style of certain rainbow lobbies now specialized in asking for sentences of life imprisonment and harsh imprisonment of 41bis for those who dare to exercise freedom of thought and opinion.
