LENT AND MISSION IMPOSSIBLE THAT IN THE WAY OF FAITH AND PURIFICATION BECOMES POSSIBLE

Lent is thus an invitation to rediscover a little mission that the Lord has given us. To rediscover the vocation to which all of us addressed, each in a different way, but according to a holy vocation.

Dear brothers and sisters,

poster of the famous film

I do not know if you remember the Tom Cruise movie, the famous Mission Impossible the 1996. In the movie, the main character Ethan Hunt has just mission impossible: an anti terrorist mission. A tal fine, calls with him of trusted colleagues, which he gives important and difficult assignments.

.

Lent It is therefore an invitation to rediscover a little mission that the Lord has given us. To rediscover the vocation to which all of us addressed, each in a different way, but according to a holy vocation.

.

The three readings of this second Sunday of Lent They speak to us of this, text from the Old testament [see the text of the Liturgy of the Word, WHO]:

.

"In those days, the Lord said to Abram: "Get thee out of thy country, from your kindred and your father's house, to the land that I will show you ' "

.

That "go away" It is not intended as a kick away Abram by God. And yes, an imperative, but literally it sounds more like a military command. And so the mission has a mandate that Abram did not invent it has received from the Lord. A warrant designed and intended exclusively for Abram, Abraham will become and will begin the great mission of leading the people of Israel.

.

This also applies to us: we try to reflect on the origins of the mandate that we have received. Whatever the state of life to which we are called, behold, the Lord has called us by name, inviting us to come out of ourselves, from our land, our security and serenity to open ourselves to a greater mission. And he has not left us alone. We read in St. Paul when he writes:

.

"My son, by the power of God, suffer with me for the Gospel. Who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his plan and his grace ".

.

Here Saint Paul writes Timothy beloved in the time of captivity. At the time of his assignment as a preacher and an apostle is really put to the test. But Paul knows well that he received grace. Grace is the power that God gives us to be able to participate in the best to our mission together with Him, and with him and put it into practice.

.

We too, so, we have received grace for our vocation. It means we can invigorate the life of grace, of prayer and in this period of some penance. Even in this time of national distress, we know we have the help of the Lord near.

.

This announcement Have your Lord, We are given to us from the Gospel of this Sunday:

.

"As they descended from the mountain, Jesus commanded them: "Tell no one the vision, before the Son of Man has risen from the dead ' ".

.

Jesus was transfigured. The apostles knew the Father that teaches, lives and speaks with them is the beloved Son; is the Son of God. It also reveals to them, for what it is, after that at Christmas it was shown to the shepherds through the angelic announcement. He says that phrase. He asks the messianic secret: Jesus went from terrible suffering, then rise again. From those terrible moments, that the apostles present can not understand, It will grace. It will be our joy and our liberation.

.

In this time of Lent let's start right now to reflect on the Passion events as events that prepare the New Era of grace: in which each of us will have his personal Easter, and the transition to an authentic life.

.

He wrote Jean-Paul Sartre:

.

"Who is authentic, responsible for what, and you recognize free to be what it is'.

.

The Lord always give us the courage to embrace our vocation, to live more and more with the authenticity and the courage of God's children.

Amen.
