Dear brothers and sisters,

on this feast of the Presentation [texts of the Liturgy of the Word, WHO], He passed through the radio a song by Italian singer Zucchero, entitled Spirit in the dark. The author has a wish: that the world is poured out of a love light. In fact, the lyrics explicitly says: "I'd like to see the world in a celebration that lights up the spirit in the dark '.

Let us meditate on this feast, starting from the text of the Old Testament prophet Malachi:

.

"Behold, I will send my messenger to prepare the way before me: […] He is like a refiner's fire and like 'soap' [Ml 3, 2].

.

In this prophecy, Malachi He describes God's messenger with two images: fire and lye, that it was used as a detergent to whiten clothes. Both of these two elements, recall the purification and back clean after dirty. This messenger is not then an angel, that it is not called to purify, disinfect and wash. Malachi already proclaims Christ, It called for this task so important: volunteer for our purification.

This is a reminder to purify our lives then, our habits, above all, our way of living the faith. Let us purify our lives by idols that, unseen, They have occupied the center.

To reach questO we become aware that God takes care of us, as he explained by the author of the Letter to the Hebrews:

"Christ did not take care of the angels, but the stock of Abraham cares " [EB 2, 16]

In a sense, we can rest assured of this continuing protection of the Lord. Even in the face of difficult and terrible events of history, that are beyond our control and our responsibility, we can only put us under his wing.

I also think of these days, for example about the news on the Coronavirus, that however exaggerated, show by good share of the world population a sense of loss. Let the Lord to protect us, with the help of scientists and doctors: fearless.

In fact, the feast of Jesus which is presented to the temple it is summarized in this: Jesus is offered to the Father, devoted father to free us from sin and from all the attendant anxieties, as they illustrate the words of the wise and old Simeon read benedisse and Mary his mother said:

"There, he is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and as a sign of contradiction - and you yourself a sword will pierce your soul -, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed " [LC 2, 34].

Jesus is called and is offered in the Temple, of which he becomes the center and foundation. Indeed, in his being offered and presented in the Temple, It stands as the definitive place to meet God. That is why Jesus is a sign of contradiction and fall for many: because the Pharisees were tied to their ritual patterns and practices of the Temple, but they had lost their characteristic of being rituals to bring us into communion with God. Jesus is rather the one who reveals the thoughts of many hearts: reveals the contradiction of a bigoted religion and repetitive rather than to God who asks us a true faith membership, actively and responsibly.

Faith thus becomes not a habit for us all and mechanical repetition: This would indeed be a contradiction for all of us. Instead fan the faith, offering all of us to the temple with Jesus, living it with strength in the everyday.
