Dear brothers and sisters,

lighting of the Olympic torch, Athens 2018

repeats itself every four years the sporting event of the Olympics. Next summer we will have the Olympic Games a Tokyo. I remember the first Olympics I saw on television, Atlanta 1996. I remember that during those four years of preparation for the Olympics is carried by a torchbearer the Olympic torch: in the ancient Olympics that fire indicates the continued presence of the chief god: for the Greeks Zeus. The torch is a symbol of warmth and light that illuminates and shows the presence of God. This invokes the sense of light, the light generated by the Triune God in whom we believe and know to be true and living God.

.

The liturgy of this second Sunday of Ordinary Time (see text of the Liturgy of the Word, WHO), In the first reading the Old Testament offers us this passage:

.

"I make you a light of nations, so that my salvation to the ends of the earth " (Is 49,3.5-6).

.

The prophet Isaiah hears the voice of the Lord, Adonai. And listen to himself a great promise: be a light for all nations. The call to end indicates that the message of God is a universal message and not enclosed only to Israel. But being light to the nations it means bringing revelation and life. A give birth in a spiritual way, It is to generate life in God.

.

We too, as Isaiah We can slightly’ Do this: be bearers of divine light. Being cristofori the flame of divine love. Especially going to solve obscure personal questions: clearing with truth and charity those cores division to make them communion.

.

We then draw the light Originating directly from its Source: Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of the Father. The first to notice this is just the Baptist, that is said in the Gospel:

.

"The Baptist said," He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, it is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit ". And I have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God " (GV 1,29-34).

.

Giovanni, says the Gospel, saw Jesus coming toward Him. He sees a ray of sunshine different than what was usually seen in the sunny desert. That is seen in Jesus that special light, the divine explosion of the Holy Spirit. So the Baptist can see and recognize the divine sonship of Jesus. God then reveals himself in Christ: the light is the ultimate truth, eternal light that will never end in the dark.

.

Let us try to remember it in moments of our darkness: to seek the divine Light, that illuminates and can give us consolation. Even when the darkness seems deep. Tapping into that light, means responding to a call, a mission which is eternally written in our hearts. The St. Paul explains:

.

«Paolo, the Church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus " (1Color 1,1-3).

.

There is an original holiness, a first ray of light in our lives: when we were conceived from the very beginning the Lord for us it has always had a bright and shiny project. The call to holiness, It is called to be a light to the world. This also happens in life in which we live. It takes place in the workplace and even in moments of relaxation. If we remain linked to the central light, who has sanctified us just designed, we continue to burn with His love, and to sanctify the world.

.

Wrote the poet Friedrich Hölderlin:

.

"Day and night, a divine fire pushes us to open the way. come On! We look into the open, try something of their own, although it is still far ».

.

The Lord more and more gifts us His Light, to shine in all of our luster, throughout our uniqueness and sacredness: to know how to burn like embers and be that sacred fire which opens on Infinity.

Amen.

hi I do not understand this parallelism between the light of the Olympic Games and the saving light of Jesus Christ, it does not have anything to do with it. The fire at the Olympics in ancient times was turned to the gods Zeus and were pagan gods.
