April Fool

Appendix to “April Fool”

It is difficult that others mock me because I take out alone. And then, to be really serious should never be dire but playful, because with a smile, what is more serious, there is transmitted and imprinted, while with the grim seriousness, and especially the clerical, what is more serious, there is clear and nothing remains [Ariel S. Readers were okay for this failure to appoint not despair: for the “April Fools” of 2016 I will be appointed Archbishop of Naples [photomontage of Andrea]

Dear Readers / Dear Readers.

Please those who moved in even tones I have sent messages of congratulations to my appointment as titular bishop of Laodicea Combusta, not feeling mocked for this April Fools [see WHO]. But suffice wait a little that I may happen to the cardinal of a residential ancient seat: Sepe, Archbishop of Naples. I already have the evidence for April Fools 2016 and I can anticipate a picture of me with the relic of San Gennaro in hand, photomontage by friend Andrea in which incidentally — I would like to point out — the two loaves you see in the picture are not my hands but those dell'amabile episcopo ancient Partenope.

Just when I joke very seriously and many of you will seize the underlying message is that this: who hopes to achieve anything, small or large, does some jokes, to do what must be the strength of the human and Christian freedom from any hidden or ill-concealed ambition. For ecclesiastical ambition is particularly nefarious, because if the devil can take in it, of us may be able to do whatever he wants. Long and painful it would be a list resulting from my experiences of priestly life sometimes painful. I met bishops who serve and love rather than the particular Churches entrusted to them dispelled his episcopate to try to promote themselves to bigger and prestigious venue, always available for political, journalists or members of the Roman Curia as ravvoltolati little women in the washroom in the worst chatter, unfriendly and not dedicated to the care of their clergy and their faithful; ready to marginalize even cruel ways all those who honestly and devout than put them in front of their burdensome pastoral responsibility, but surrounded in return for greasy and adoring segretarietti or collaborators of the bishop himself strictly mediocre, often promoted in turn to the episcopal dignity. Indeed, it is now common practice and uncontrolled sad that half figures, before you encircle, then bring forward the following figures even half of them, so much so that hardly, a chicken clucking in the yard, you put an eagle in their vicinity.

I met young priests who saw already apostolic nuncios in Washington, but thank God, finally slipped on a banana peel, victims of their own craftiness whole alleged. Is that unfortunately I have seen many more go ahead and much worse. Too many others I have seen accompanied servile and pimps to cordate of curial to which a priest for ever better not lengthen the hand even with the fishing rod; and are the same ones who just yesterday, under the pontificate of Benedict XVI Venerable, were all a triumph of bobbins, damaschi e poses ieratiche, always ready to sigh in good Latin liturgical. Today these same characters wear vestments cheesy vile acrylic, go around with half clergyman scollacciato and you explain that in ecclesial life the value of poverty is all; and if by chance you let escape from his mouth half oration in Latin, risks being branded as Retro. Evidently they understood - or believe they have understood - that today, to make a career in the new ecclesiastical world, you have to talk about the poor, bums and existential suburbs of various kinds; unaware that perhaps, all this, could instead be just a clever game to make them come out and cause them to fall into the fishing net in their tense masterfully, or if you prefer with authentic cunning Papal-Jesuit.

In this varied sample of the worst ever are surely those who have failed in their climb and finished later dismissed from the Roman Curia or the diplomatic service, once sent trumpet&frustrated in their dioceses of origin have turned to their bishops and their brethren of unmanageable concentrated of the worst poisons.

Ambition makes it nearly always the man not free, therefore false, and false, in addition to not be in any way reliable, and the penalty is always a malicious poisoner of ecclesial life, and damages and fratricidal wars that often produces within the ecclesiastical world are sometimes incalculable.

Repeatedly, speaking privately with my student and collaborator and several others my children, I said with sad irony that I could write in advance as of now the list of all the worst elements known during my training for the priesthood, and below in my priestly life, that one by one all become bishops, the bishops will become more mediocre Cardinals, Cardinals will become more mediocre, who knows … because they are programmed to do so since the early months of the seminar and many of them manage to achieve what you have set. That said I always added: … and ineffable mystery, these subjects false, limited, mediocre, often weak from the doctrinal and pastoral and often embarrassing on moral, received the sacred anointing and with it the fullness of the priesthood will be still the legitimate instruments of grace; and as such should be respected and revered and protected as necessary treasures, but not for what they are, but for what they represent, and especially for the sacraments they will have to administer. Certain, will never addressed my esteem, but will always be recipients of my priestly worship, because they embody the fullness of the apostolic priesthood in the mystery of the Church since its birth struggle with the Mystery of Evil.

Too long in seminaries and novitiates Religious has often emphasized and exaggerated in ways sometimes verges on obsession cardinal sin of lust, as if he were residing in human sexuality the whole mystery of evil. And while we were taken to focus on this, under the eyes of pious trainers, bishops and major superiors and only worried about the dangers of human sexuality of future priests and monks, grew and multiplied armies of uncontrollable superb, misers, envious, iracondi. And pride, how many times I wrote and repeated on these our columns of’Patmos Island, is the queen of all sins, the sum charioteer that you pull behind all other. It is for this and certainly not by chance that the first place is she, the Superbia, not lust, which is still a serious sin but that the list of the Seven Deadly Sins is however in 5th place, because before it there are four other: The. haughtiness, (II). avarice, III. envy, IV. IRA … perhaps that these are more serious, if the chronological order of degree of the Catechism of the Catholic Church has a precise meaning?

For my spirit of freedom from certain ambitions which I think is quite healthy, I confess that sometimes I would even like to be a little’ appreciated by the Ecclesiastical, instead treated to fish in the face. When, however, in this PITA - And often dwarf suffering from all the giants terrified for this from the comparison with the others - triggered in me the human desire to be loved, I try to escape this “temptation” reciting the Litany of Humility Cardinal Merry del Val … and everything pass me. Several times I have recommended to several of my brother priests penitents, and also their, or at least to the most, everything is past.

And now rinchiudiamoci in the mystery of the Sacred Rites Pasquali, tomorrow morning priests from around the world will celebrate with their Bishops the Chrism Mass during which renew their promises, then Mass of the Lord's Supper which renews the memory of the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood.

Litany HUMILITY

written by the Servant of God Rafael Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart! Esaudiscimi.
From the desire of being esteemed - Set me free, Jesus.
The desire to be loved - Set me free, Jesus,
From the desire of being praised - Set me free, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored - Deliver me Jesus.
From the desire of being praised - Set me free, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others - Set me free, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted - Set me free, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rejections - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being slandered - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being caught in ridiculous - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being abused - Set me free, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected - Deliver me Jesus.
Others to be loved more than me - Jesus, datmmi the grace to desire!
That others are estimated more than me - Jesus, give me the grace to desire!
That others can grow in the opinion of the world and that I can decrease - Jesus, give me the grace to desire!
Others can be used and I put aside - Jesus, give me the grace to desire!
That others may be praised and I, untreated - Jesus, give me the grace to desire!
That others may be preferred to me in everything - Jesus, give me the grace to desire!
That others may be more holy than me, provided that I may become holy as I can - Jesus give me the grace to desire!

The Dio, that withstand the proud and grace to the humble: grant me the virtue of true humility, with which Your only begotten showed the example to the faithful in His Person; so that will never happen to cause Thy indignation with the elated pride, but rather, humbly submit myself to receive the gifts of Thy grace.
Amen.

  1. Great Rev. Ariel. At first you had screwed me too.
I tried to keep our readers in suspense, as you asked. And now we are waiting for those who will write that “you have a very bad taste”, that “you're not worthy of…”, “you're no longer credible”, “did you do it just to advertise the site and receive money through paypal you spend in Neumann microphones from 2000 euro so that the girls of Hawaii where running listen better words worthy of little Red Riding Hood Wolf that will come from your lips the sly!”
Maybe will be many that will arise blabla, Perhaps a few. The reality is that we have fun.

Anyway, high esteem for Mons. Well (I don't personally know of course, But having confidence in the Holy See, I trust preconceived working there men), but I could see myself in that role.
That said, I speak from one that was great on the first buggerato, Thanks for this real lesson in humility.

  2. If our Archbishop sees your photo (and someone I will see) and reads your ad where you advances his successor in Naples, for as I know him he will die (figuratively) with laughter, and if anything will ask someone of his co-workers to check if you're born in Naples or if you have Neapolitan ancestry, suspecting this our style …
    good Easter Triduum.

    Don Gaetano (Naples)
